In ignition interlock
device is an instrument which is wired into an automobiles ignition switch and
prevents a users from starting their vehicle should they measure a high alcohol
content. Although there is a growing
population of volunteer users, for the most part, this is a court mandated
device, usually a penalty of DWI
or DUI.
Although there have been significant advancements in ignition interlock technology, there are also several challenges in capturing blood alcohol content levels. For example, an ignition interlock may require a user to conduct several tests before it is able to capture a reading. When you multiply the fact that rolling tests are required (these are tests requested every few minutes by the device after starting the car and while driving), a user could be providing breath samples 20 to 40 times a day. This can be time consuming and embarrassing for the user and often it leads to avoidance. To address this need, CoverCup online developed an interlock cover which fits over most manufactured ignition interlock devices and disguises the interlock as a coffee cup. This provides a level of normalcy to the driver thereby encouraging greater usage of the ignition interlock.
